The bowgun's current upgrades are almost completely worthless, as well. Also, why do bolts take three squares when they're made from consumable knives which take two.? And why would you ever spend large resources on that anyway when they also make rifle ammo, shotgun ammo, and flash grenades.?

RE4R attache case space is at a massive premium in the early game, when the bowgun is at its most useful as a result I spent one playthrough impressed by its power and utility and then dropped it for hardcore and professional entirely. Add in the mines and we have a pistol-tier weapon taking up a whopping 13 squares. It's a relatively compact gun but it still takes up more space than the TMP because its ammo is so large, and since it's retrievable it keeps forcing itself back into the case instead of neatly sliding back into the bowgun.
